Position: Prevention Intern
Location: Santa Rosa, CA
Reports To: Prevention Department Manager
Status: Nonexempt, part time (20-22 hours/week)
Salary: $18.50/hour (eligible for $1/hour bilingual pay differential)
Summary: The Prevention Intern provides The Prevention Intern delivers sexual assault prevention education outreach to both youth and adults and assists students with advocacy if any disclosures occur after the presentation. The Prevention Intern will collaborate with schools, community groups, probationary youth, and adults.
This is a grant funded position, with funds currently available until the end of May 2025. Verity is hopeful that the funding will be extended beyond that point, but that is not guaranteed.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

- Community outreach and engagement
- Act as a representative of Verity as a public speaker, prevention educator, trainer, or other community relation roles as assigned
- Provide a high level of empathy and patience when working with vulnerable populations.
- Assist in the creation of content such as blogs, infographics, videos on social media.
Administrative
- Record and input data into Verity’s database systems for reporting purposes.
- Adhere to all Verity personnel policies and protocols
- Additional duties and responsibilities as required
Competencies
- Completion of Prevention Specialist Training.
- Computer proficiency and excellent organizational skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication and facilitation skills.
Education and Skills
- State certification within three years, in current standing, as a sexual assault counselor/advocate. If not certified, candidate must be able to complete Verity’s Crisis Line Counselor training
- Ability to establish a rapport with adults and youth of all ages and backgrounds, including “at-risk” children and youth.
- Comfortable and adept at facilitating community presentations and public speaking.
- Maintain a professional demeanor with other agency professionals and community members.
- Fluent in Spanish and English preferred (bilingual pay differential available)

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Ability to work at a desk/computer in a shared workspace for several hours at a time; bending and/or lifting up to 20 pounds, grasping; capacity to navigate two-story building via stairs; specific vision abilities include close and peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment; work environment represents those an employee encounters while working in an office workspace environment, attending a tabling public event, other outreach project sites and presentations. Additional specific physical demands may include:
- Carry essential materials for tabling and outreach events, including a canopy, chairs, tables, pamphlets, prizes/swag, and a tablecloth.
- Responsible for both setting up and cleaning up after tabling events.
- Be prepared to walk a few blocks, depending on the event and parking location.
- Bring coloring books for presentations at elementary schools.
Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
20-22 hours a week. Non-Exempt. This role must be available at least three days a week between the hours of 8am and 3pm for school presentation engagements.
Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day; reliable transportation is required; ability to use personal vehicles for work-related errands. Mileage for use of personal vehicle is reimbursed.
